Taking strategic needs assessment forward —
A new tool for commissioners and providers of social care
Planning4care represents a leap forward in strategic needs assessment and demand forecasting. It is a hands-on dynamic tool providing local analysis of changing needs and the implications for services and costs.
Planning4care provides the essential analysis for the social care element of Joint Strategic Needs Assessment for older people.

Planning4care:
- Profiles the older population by levels of care needs
- Takes account of local risk factors
- Maps areas of greatest needs
- Projects future costs and service requirements
- Lets you explore changing scenarios
Planning4care is affordable. Strategic needs assessment for a local authority and PCT starts from £5,000, with the basic package including a strategic needs assessment report, full website access, scenario mapping and introductory briefing.
Planning4care has now been launched, and you can register for a free demonstration trial of the tool.
Planning4care tool has been developed by Care Equation and Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI) and has been piloted in Brighton & Hove with support from the Care Services Improvement Partnership (CSIP).
The Planning4care team would like to thank the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at LSE for permission to adopt the structure of the PSSRU long-term care finance model and for helpful advice.
